Booktalk about Wither by Lauren DeStephano
What
if you knew you couldn’t live past the age of 25 if you were a guy and the age
of 20 if you were a girl? What if you
lived in constant fear by simply walking down the street? What happens to the elders.. the people who
invented drugs to create perfect, yet eventually lifeless children? Well, as far as we can tell, if the elders
are rich enough, they marry their sons off to multiple women in hopes that they
can find a cure. But what does this mean
for girls? They’re stolen out of their
lives, picked by men to be part of various families, and if the girls don’t
make the cut, their killed in the van their hoarded in. This is what happens to Rhine Ellery, stolen
from her twin brother and the only thing that kept her alive were here
heterochromatic eyes. She was forced to
marry along with two others to the same man.
What happens to her? What happens
to the cute helper she can’t help but be attracted to? What should she do as the little time she has
left is slowly being taken away from her?
Should she leave? Should she stay? Should she go find her brother or has
he already come looking for her? If you
enjoyed The Forest of Hands and teeth, you’ll like this one. The storyline keeps you guessing about the
story of Rhine, the history of the world, why there is an age difference
between death, what happened to cause the world to be the way it is. You’ll want to know what happened to Rhine,
her new husband Linden, the other two wives Cecily and Jenna, their evil
stepfather scientist Vaughn, and if her love for her brother and relationship
with the maid Gabriel could get her out of her brave new world. To find out what happens, read Wither by
Lauren DeStephano.
